Be a Part of History and Tradition
Soo Bahk Do® is Hwang Kee's unique interpretation of a traditional martial art originating in Korea many centuries ago.  It is noted for its explosive kicking techniques and dynamic hand strikes, utilizing scientific theory to attain maximum power.  Soo Bahk Do® is a harmony of body, mind, and spirit.  We seek not only to prepare students for physical defense, but to build character in a safe, non-contact environment.

Portland Soo Bahk Do is the first Moo Duk Kwan® School in Portland Oregon- opening on January 20th 2015- during the 70th anniversary of the the birth of Founder Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan® school in Korea (1945). The art was brought to America by U.S. servicemen in the 1960’s. One of those early servicemen was Master Robert Shipley III (8th Dan) who opened schools and taught students in Hawaii and Camas WA (over 20 years in each place). Charles Smith is one of Master Shipley’s first Dan (black belt) students from his Camas Soo Bahk Do School.
